Rufus Wainwright @ Festival Theatre, October ’10

I was told tonight’s set by Rufus Wainwright would be in two halves, the first being rather dark, melancholy and consequently, hard to shoot.

Limited shooting range at the Festival Theatre due to seating right the way to the stage meant I was only able to shoot one angle.

Rufus had choreographed a daunting visual of a slowly opening and closing eye (possible the eye of an animal?) to add another layer to his opening numbers.

I shot a few tight shots, and then waited to get shots of the eye fully opened.

There was a single blue gelled light on Rufus and that was all.

Hardly visible in these shots is a piano.

Very interesting set, and having left before the second half, I will always wonder how the stage was lit for the remainder of the show.
