Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival – Just the punters, February ’12
NB: These shots are only a random selection of the punters from the day, here’s a list of the bands I shot: Steering By Stars Gold Bloom Austra EMA Chairlift Glasser Pajama Club Active Child Girls The Drums Laura Marling Twin Shadow The Panics The Horrors M83 Washed Out SBTRKT 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. [...]
SBTRKT @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
I’d heard talk of how this show from SBTRKT could go either way. There were rumours of a huge stage setup with LCD panels and loads of people on stage with him and then there were rumours of it being just one dude up on stage doing his thing. In the end we got a [...]
Washed Out @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Most of the stage lighting for Washed Out was just that, except for a few bursts of back lighting that coincided with the main spotties kicking in. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05.
M83 @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Over on the main stage blue lighting was the go for M83. It actually suited their sound quite nicely. 01. 02. 03. 04.
The Horrors @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
The Horrors were difficult to shoot from the pit – the stage was setup on sloped ground so there was a high and a low side. The low side was the better side! I found shooting long from up on the stairs in the Uni to be a better shot. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. [...]
The Panics @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
I’ve shot The Panics a couple of times in the past (at The Gov in ’08 over here, and also over here at the Uni Bar just last year) and it’s a safe bet to say I really love what they do. However, their set at Laneway this year was terrible. Something was off right [...]
Twin Shadow @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Perfect stage lighting for Twin Shadow at this years Laneway Festival! Exact amount of front white lighting and a great set of gelled cans for the background. Loved it!! 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. 08. 09.
Laura Marling @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Due to timetable clashes I only shot the first song from Laura Marling. That first song might have been somewhat of a warm-up as things on stage looked a little slow getting going. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05.
The Drums @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Heavy rains forced The Drums to set up right at the back of the stage at this years Laneway Festival. It was lightly raining as they played so my shots were taken quickly as I forgot my lens hoods! Bah! There were puddles of water on the stage, and while that may be a safety [...]
Girls @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
The highlight for me at this years St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Girls had a beautiful stage setup complete with bouquets of flowers and very nice white lighting. A low stage, with side access also made photographing their set a real pleasure. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. 08. 09.
Active Child @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Can’t think of another instance when I’ve ever shot a harp on stage! Aside from the harp, Active Child also had some great opportunities for gelled backlighting if I angled myself a certain way. I was torn because to position myself for those angles to work would mean mic in face – something I would [...]
Pajama Club @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Unfortunately this was a rather tedious set from Pajama Club. Not sure what was going on, however their stage show lacked any real points of interest. The entire band appeared to be going through the motions only. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06.
Glasser @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Back over on the Fowlers stage, Glasser brought their synth sounds to the small gathered crowd under standard sub-par Fowlers lighting. There was fleeting seconds of white light between major over-use of red, so I timed my shots to try and catch those moments. 01. 02. 03. 04.
Chairlift @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Chairlift didn’t have much to work with at this years St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, the smallish crowd and flat lighting not helping at all. Shame too, as they sounded great. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. 08. 09.
EMA @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Opening their set with a cover of Danzig’s “Soul On Fire” EMA had my attention immediately. The rest of their set was as captivating and I’m certain they won a bunch of new fans. Myself included. Lighting was still a bit sketchy as it wasn’t even close to dark outside and the stage was set [...]
Austra @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
With a drummer who looked like she really didn’t want to be there, Austra took the gong for most tedious appearance on stage at this years St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. It’s hard to enjoy a band’s performance when the band members themselves appear flat and disinterested. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. 08. 09.
Gold Bloom @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Over on the Fowlers stage, Gold Bloom performed a perfect set under the same sketchy lighting Fowlers is synonymous for. It always baffles me why when this venue is used as a stage for St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, decent lighting isn’t brought in for the day? 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. 08.
Steering By Stars @ Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, February ’12
Heavy rains delayed proceedings for Steering By Stars as they opened the 2012 Adelaide St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. On a overly deep stage, pushed right back into the depths of it they played a shortish set to growing number of punters. Lighting was barely noticeable, however I did spot some reflective angles off the rain [...]
