Wolfmother @ HQ, September ’09

Before tonight, HQ was a venue I had not shot in. I had been there a few times as a punter, and sussed that the lighting setup looked amazing. Adding to that, the height of the stage looked perfect for my style of shooting: camera held high, right at subject, wide angle lens, angled down.

Wolfmother are all about the rock.

They have the hot-dog heavy riffs and plenty of rock poses to go along with it.

I knew tonight I was in for a photography treat!

I was also rocking with a new lens for this gig: a brand spanka 16-35 f/2.8L II and having this width on the full frame goodness of the 5D I knew I would be able to get even closer to Andrew Stockdale than last time I shot Wolfmother.

The lens didn’t disappoint!

Many of these close shots wouldn’t have been possible without cropping of body parts without the 16mm end of this lens. I found on selective focus points, this lens was quicker to find focus in little light than the 24-70 f/2.8L and the results were razor sharp!

Beautiful!!
